In collaboration with Professor Olivier Hekster and the Radboud University Nijmegen, Brill has released 14 volumes in the book series Impact of Empire in Open Access. Together, these titles form the complete collection of proceedings from the annual workshops by the International Network Impact of Empire. The workshops draw top contributions from various disciplines on topics that are still relevant today, such as migration, religion, cultural identity, and justice, focusing on the consequences of the actions and sheer existence of the Roman Empire in the regions it dominated.
"It is great news to have these volumes out in Open Access", says Professor of Ancient History and Series Editor, Olivier Hekster. "An important goal of the network is to foster cooperation between disciplines and between scholars working in various academic traditions. Having the proceedings of all our previous workshops now publicly available will help to promote the importance of such cooperations and of course make the proceedings accessible to many people, who might not otherwise have been able to use them."
Mirjam Elbers, Sr. Acquisitions Editor at Brill, adds: "Since the Network's transfer to Brill in 2006, Brill has been committed to disseminate the workshops' results in the Impact of Empire book series. Open Access enables us to introduce these results to an even broader audience, and heighten the impact of the important work by the International Network."
Brill's Open Access books are discoverable through DOAB and distributed free of charge in Brill's E-Book Collections, and through JSTOR. To maximize the dissemination and ensure optimal indexing in library catalogues, Brill also includes these titles, free of charge, in the complete E-Book Collection of the Impact of Empire series. This new collection, which includes 34 volumes in total, is available as of today. Information and prices can be found here.
