Tech and social trends – predictions for 2015

An infographic published by Compuware pulls together a variety of sources to demonstrate the rapid growth of mobile consumption and predicts future trends.

• Mobile users check their phones 150 times a day on average
• 67% of users start engaging on one device and continue on another
• There are over 1 million apps available
• App downloads are expected to rise by 185% by 2017
• Users expect mobile apps to load within 3 seconds – failure to do so will result in lack of recommendations and increased levels of frustration.
• Only 16% of users will try more than two times if an app has failed to launch
• Fewer than half of those who download an app will open it more than once

Social media trends

• In 2014 there were approximately 1.79 billion users of social media
• Projected to increase to 2.4 billion by 2018
• The ephemeral web becomes mainstream
• Content becomes more personalised – all actions across social media are trackable and reflect the interests and preferences of the user

• Cyberattacks to increase – critical infrastructure will be targeted; increased use of ransomware; cyberattacks as a political weapon predicted
• The growth of 'self service big data'
• Health and fitness wearables predicted to reach 91 million units by 2016
