The report measures 30 cities from around the world against 100 individual metrics.
Tech cities are important centres for tech in their region and are hotspots for investors. They are a generator of and a magnet for talent. GDP across the 30 Tech Cities is forecast to rise by 36% in the next decade, against a rate of 19% across other developed cities.
The six categories of metrics are:
- The business environment - e.g. cost of doing business; R&D/innovation; ease of starting a business
- The tech environment – e.g. tech infrastructure; size of tech sector
- City buzz and wellness – e.g. cost of living
- Talent pool – e.g. attractiveness to talent/immigration
- Real estate costs – e.g. cost of renting commercial/residential property
- Mobility – e.g. transport systems
