Speaking at Internet Librarian International, David Kane of Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland demonstrated how Waterford has experimented with Microsoft Live Labs Pivot to create a different view of their library catalogue. Pivot uses faceted navigation to generate results which can be visualised, sorted and filtered in a variety of dynamic ways. "The way it [the visual representation of the data] migrates around like a shoal of fish is lovely", commented Kane.
Delegates were eager to explore whether the technology might have applications for reading lists and multi-lingual user groups, among other uses.
