Research carried out by Ofcom show that people in the UK spend more time online than any other nation in Europe, spending on average more than 12 hours a week online. They also own more smartphones and watch more TV via the internet than other Europeans. 27% of people in the UK watch TV online every week, using such services as the BBC's iPlayer.
With 46% of all mobile subscribers having smartphones, the UK leads both Europe and the US, with Spain close behind with 45%.
