Twitter amends character limits

Twitter's 140 character limit has been amended so that pictures and media are not included.  User names to whom tweets are sent will also be removed from the character limits.

Twitter says the move will allow users to "say more about what’s happening".

Other changes announced recently include the removal of character limits in Direct Messages.   Recent new features including Moments and Mute are all designed to simplify Twitter and make it more welcoming to new users.
