Russia: new digital landscape report

Econsultancy has been producing a series of reports on the digital market landscape of the BRIC countries.  Following its recent surveys of Brazil and China, the latest report looks at Russia.

Russia is Europe’s biggest internet market, with over 60 million internet users.  99% of the population has a mobile phone, although smartphones are not (yet) widely adopted.

Key findings

• Social media sites are extremely popular in Russia
• Russia has several successful 'home-grown sites including Yandex, Odnoklassniki and VKontakte
• Mail.ru (an email site and portal) had 52 million visitors in December 2012
• About half of the population are using the internet
• Russia is the world’s fifth fastest growing internet economy
