The collaboration between the National Library of Israel (NLI) and Google will ensure that all of the Library’s 120,000 out of copyright books will be digitised.
Approximately 45% of the works are in Hebrew and other Hebrew-letter languages such as Yiddish and Ladino. The remainder are in a range of other languages, including Latin, English, German, French, Arabic, and Russian.
The books will be transported from the National Library to Google’s digitisation centre in Germany. It is estimated that the project will take two years to complete. The project will significantly increase the percentage of Hebrew texts available via Google Books.More about the Google Books project here.
