Germany: Stasi documents online

Archivists have released a number of documents, images and sound recordings that offer an insight into how East Germany’s internal spy network operated.

No information about specific individuals has been made available.  Citizens of the former East Germany were often subjected to surveillance, and many ordinarly members of the public acted as informers. Thousands have applied to access their Stasi files.
