France: book borrowing app under fire

App provides a platform for strangers to share books.

Booxup is an app that facilitates book-sharing between its subscribers.

No money changes hands in the transactions.  Instead, users simply scan the barcodes of the books they are making available for loan and potential borrowers contact the lender to arrange collection.

However, despite the fact that these transactions are not commercial, it seems that app is being investigated by Frances’s consumer protection agency (Direction Générale de la Concurrence, de la Consommation et de la Répression des Fraudes or DGCCRF).

The DGCCRF has already announced that Uber’s (commercial) business model is illegal in France.
