Facebook in trouble in Europe – again

Facebook faces fines for fibs.

Fined in France

France's data protection watchdog has fined Facebook €150,000 for failing to prevent user data being accessed by advertisers.

The action represents the first significant action taken against a company transferring Europeans' data to the US following an EU court ruling last year.

The transatlantic Safe Harbour pact was ruled illegal last year amid concerns over mass US government snooping. EU data protection authorities said companies had three months to set up alternative legal arrangements for transferring data.

Further fines – this time from the European Commission

Facebook has been fined €110 million by the European Commission over its 2014 deal to buy WhatsApp. The Commission found that it had been intentionally misled by the company over the way that user data would be linked between Facebook and WhatsApp.
