Executive changes at Clarivate and Wiley

Clarivate names three new business leaders and Wiley adds an OA supporter

Gordon Samson was promoted from his role as Chief Product Officer to become Clarivate’s new President, Intellectual Property,  a newly created role, where he will be responsible for accelerating the growth of Clarivate’s IP segment with a mandate to help customers establish, protect and manage their IP. Samson joined Clarivate in October 2020 with the acquisition of CPA Global, having joined CPA Global in 2014 as its Chief Operating Officer.

Clarivate also named Bar Veinstein as President, Academia & Government. He joins from Taranis, an AI-powered crop intelligence provider, where he was Chief Executive Officer. He is, however, no stranger to Clarivate, having spent 11 years with the Ex Libris Group, which was first acquired by ProQuest then by Clarivate. In this newly created role, Veinstein will be responsible for accelerating growth within academia and government. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and economics and a master’s degree in business administration from Tel Aviv University.

For its third new business leader, Clarivate reached outside the traditional database publishing industry to appoint Henry Levy as President, Life Sciences & Healthcare. Levy joins Clarivate from Veeva Systems, where he most recently served as President, Global R&D and Quality, with previous experience as including Chief Strategy Officer and General Manager for the Clinical Data Management product suite. Additionally, Henry has published widely on drug development and technology trends.

Schimmer joins Wiley

Ralf Schimmer has joined the Wiley team as Senior Director, Government Partnerships and Public Policy, coming from the Max Planck Digital Library where he was Director of Scientific Information. In his new role, he will work with a range of stakeholders to inform policy and direction in Wiley’s successful transition to open access, lead strategy workshops with partners and customers, run thought leadership events from Wiley’s Innovation Lab in Berlin, and support Wiley in building, expanding and maintaining relations with government and other policymakers.
