Europe: online book purchases rise

Almost a quarter of all European shoppers have bought books and magazines via the internet.

The latest Eurostat survey on the use of ICT by consumers in Europe shows the increase in online book and magazine shopping.

  • Luxembourg tops the list, with a total of 47% buying books, magazines and e-learning content online
  • Germany came second (41%)
  • Sweden (38%) was followed by the UK (36%)

However, newer EU member states are lagging behind.  The lowest figures in the EU were seen in Bulgaria, Latvia and Romania where only 4% of those surveyed had bought books online.
