Digitising hidden special collections

Grants valued at over $3.8 million announced.


 

 

The (US) Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) has announced funding for 17 digitisation projects.

Over 40 institutions located in 17 states and one US territory will be involved in the 2018 Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives projects.

The Digitizing Hidden Collections programme supports the creation of digital representations of unique content of high scholarly significance that will be discoverable and usable as elements of a coherent national collection.

The chosen projects include:

  • The digitisation of Madam C.J. Walker Collections (the Life, Work, and Impact of America’s First Female African American Self-made Millionaire
  • New York Neighbours: The Shared Jewish and Chinese Immigrant and Refugee Experience
  • Visibility for Disability: Documenting the history of disability in America and the growth of the disability rights movement
