CIA declassified docs

Release of documents to National Archives.

The CIA has released a further 750,000 pages of declassified material.

The information is now accessible through the CIA’s Records Search Tool (CREST) via the National Archives in Maryland.

The release brings the total number of declassified pages now available to about 13 million.

The challenge with CREST is that it is currently only searchable in person – and even then documents need to be printed, scanned and uploaded in order to disseminate them more widely.

However, a Kickstarter campaign is  hoping to make the declassified information much more accessible.  The campaign wants to cover the cost of a scanner and other expenses to enable this to happen.  Printed files will be uploaded to the Internet Archive while there are plans to donate the physical printouts to a library, archive or museum.
