Belgium: opposition to proposed copyright reform

National collecting society SABAM opposes proposed reform.

SABAM is protesting against the proposed changes to the copyright laws in Belgium.

The proposals include the establishment of an intellectual property rights regulator which would be responsible for setting authors’ copyright fees and which would be supervised by government.  Under the current system, authors can set their own levels of copyright.

SABAM, the Belgian Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers, is also unhappy that under the proposals it will be required to part-fund the new regulator.
