The European Commission has launched a new project, Eurapp, which will measure the size of the app economy in Europe.
The research will be undertaken by the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) at NUI Galway and GigaOM Research. The research aims to fill the gap in knowledge about how the app economy is worth in Europe. Recent studies estimate that 500,000 'app economy' jobs have been created in the US.
The project will include surveys, interviews and a series of workshops and innovation challenges which will help crowdsource ideas as to how the app economy can be supported and whether EU policies can be developed to help overcome bottlenecks.
