UK: Librarian discovers rare medieval manuscript

Discovery at Reading University is from one of the earliest printed books.

The two rare pages are thought to be from a priest’s handbook that was one of the first books printed in England by William Caxton. It dates back to 1475-76.  The only other surviving fragment of the book is held at the British Library in London.

The previously undiscovered pages were part of a collection bought by the university in 1997.  They are said to be in good condition and are scheduled to go on display at Reading University’s Merl Museum.

Photographs of the manuscript can be seen in this article published in the Telegraph.
